Echocardiographic Technician

ECHOCARDIOGRAPHY TECHNICIAN

The Echocardiographic Technician Program is designed to prepare students to work as a qualified cardiac sonographer in an allied health environment. Echocardiography was introduced as a non-invasive application of cardiac ultrasound. The medical community refers to this procedure as an ECHO and it is an invaluable diagnostic tool used to evaluate and diagnose various types of heart disorders and diseases. Completion of the Echo Tech Program will result in a challenging and rewarding career by fostering individual initiative, clinical judgment, critical thinking, and a commitment to ongoing professional development in the rapidly evolving field of echocardiography.

Eligible to earn two specific credentials – RCS and RDCS

Upon graduation from Central Florida Institute Orlando

, students may be eligible to sit for the credential of Registered Cardiac Sonographer (RCS) through the Cardiovascular Credentialing International (CCI), and/or Registered Diagnostic Cardiac Sonographer (RDCS) through the American Registry for Diagnostic Medical Sonography (ARDMS). These credentials are encouraged and will enhance the opportunities to work in a variety of areas such as:

  • Hospitals
  • Outpatient Clinics
  • Physicians' offices
  • Cardiac Diagnostic Centers
  • Cardiac Rehab
  • Pediatric and/or Vascular service providers

Job duties:

  • Providing clinical judgment of cardiac (heart) and peripheral vascular (blood vessel) ailments
  • Perform echocardiography and vascular procedures that use ultrasound instrumentation, such as M-mode and Doppler
  • Perform procedures using ultrasound instrumentation to record vascular information, such as blood pressure, blood flow, oxygen saturation and limb volume changes.
